Training Begins

The training has begun for this adventure. Rory and Kendall from MeritCare Sports Medicine have helped me design a great program to get my body ready for the pounding of running basically a marathon a day for 2 weeks straight. I wanted to take a minute to thank them and MeritCare for their hard work.

This week, I will be running around 30 miles. My long run will only be about 13 miles. The program has me increasing miles about 10% each week until November. It does include weeks where miles decrease to avoid burnout and injury. Later in the summer, I will have runs greater than 20 miles and some weeks of two 30- mile runs. To be honest……I am not looking forward to those runs!

So Why Do It……

When I told my friend Rob Bye about this idea and my plan, he had his doubts that this could be done. From what he told me in a e-mail, he first thought maybe I had “bitten off more than I could chew”.  But he found himself reading 1 Samuel 2:9 and then he  understood the “why” and the “how” it will be done.

1 Sam. 2:9 states, “He will guard the feet of His saints, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness. It is not by strength that one prevails.”

The verse really lays out what I believe in my heart:  I can’t do this by my own power, but only by the grace, power and wonder of Jesus. Operation Christmas Child is an extension of the same power—bringing joy and the love of Christ to children. I can’t think of a more incredible journey to be on than this one! With God—anything is possible. Without God, nothing is possible!

Thanks for stopping by! I would love to hear from you!

  • Wade,

I LOVE the 1 Samuel 2:9 reference to the feet! This will be an exciting venture. I admire your practical application of being a servant to God. You don’t just talk the talk; you’re walking the walk (literally).

    God bless brother in Christ!

Wade, you’re crazy but that’s what we love about you. I appreciate your passion for Operation Christmas Child and respect your drive to make others aware of Operation Christmas Child and Samaritan’s Purse. When I ran my first marathon I went searching for verses on endurance since I knew I couldn’t do it alone. Colossians 1:11 became my theme verse and it was a good verse to memorize and recite when the going got tough. Col 1:9-14 — 9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[d] to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption,[e] the forgiveness of sins.

  • Good Luck Wade,

I want to wish Wade luck and my prayers for success and that we and the children will see Jesus in Wade’s efforts. First Samuel talks about the “feet” of His Saints and I know that Wade will need to care for his feet among other things, so I encourage people to partner with Wade financially and prayerfully to help with this great “feat”. I know Wade will be going through many pairs of shoes and socks throughout training and the actual run. Ask your friends and family to help support Wade. One day Jesus will thank you for giving him gifts when he needed them and you will ask when you did this for Him and He will remind you of this effort, When you have done this for the least of my children. By the way, this was my first blog, kind of cool.

  • Wade,

I can’t imagine doing what you have planned, but it is just like you to tackle a huge challenge with the help of Jesus and make a difference in a dramatic way.

I will be praying with you and Heather and your friends as you press on toward your goal and draw attention to the ministry of Operation Christmas Child.

Thanks for this ability to share in the journey that is before you. May God bless you and Heather in numerous ways as you share in this amazing adventure!

    –Pastor Jim
